Dear friend,
If you’re a woman, how much do you really know about your vagina? While the term is often used as a catch-all for everything “down there,” the vagina is a distinct component of the female reproductive anatomy—with more than a few impressive features of its own. As essential as the vagina is to life itself, we thought we’d dedicate an entire week to it here at Natural Womanhood.
In our latest FAM Basics installment, Kristen Curran gives a detailed overview of the vagina, and everything this incredible organ is capable of—and the best ways to care for this impressively flexible, tough-yet-sensitive part of the body. Clare Sharp also dives into the topic of vaginal cancer (including its connection with HPV and HIV), with some thought-provoking remarks on prevention that go beyond reliance on vaccines and other interventions.
You may have noticed that we don’t use any cutesy nicknames to refer to female body parts here at Natural Womanhood. We believe that women should not be ashamed of using the proper terminology for their anatomy, and that it helps them better advocate for good reproductive healthcare and feel confident in their bodies. But if words like “vagina” make you cringe, and you’re the mother of a young daughter whom you want to empower with confidence in her female body, know that we can teach you how to do it in our Mothers of (Pre)Teens course.
Action call: This week a NW reader wrote to us: “Just a note to say thank you so much for posting this article about premature menopause. I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency earlier this year. The Natural Womanhood website has been so very helpful over the years.” What’s on your mind these days in your own fertility journey? Please let us know, even if we’ve written about it already! Our readers are our inspiration for this work, and we want to continue to be as helpful as possible with the content we put out for you.
Best,
Grace
