2025 has been an incredible year for us here at Natural Womanhood. We published more than 150 brand-new articles, produced 9 new episodes of The Natural Womanhood Podcast, and contributed to the cultural discussion on women’s health, fertility awareness, and restorative reproductive medicine (RRM) via participation at various women’s health-related events in Washington, D.C. and around the world, and in outside articles and resources like the Ethics and Public Policy Center’s Treating Infertility: The New Frontier of Reproductive Medicine

Each year, as the Editorial Team for Natural Womanhood, we publish some articles that make us think “wow, we really nailed it with this one”—and 2025 was no different. Below are a few of the articles we think struck a major chord in the conversation around women’s health.

Isabelle Adams, Education Coordinator and Editorial Support

My two favorite articles from 2025 were the ones that Anne Marie Williams wrote on her positive hospital birth experience: “My Positive Hospital Birth Story, Part I and Part II.”

As a first-time mom who desires to have a natural birth (but has to give birth in a hospital), it was encouraging to read about steps I could proactively take to confidently approach birth and advocate for myself. I appreciated Anne Marie honestly sharing her past negative experience, as well as the assertiveness and gratitude that characterized her most recent birth.

When I read these two articles, my confidence that I could also have a natural birth grew, and I am now preparing for (hopefully) a similar experience in just a few weeks. More than anything though, I appreciate Anne Marie creating a space for conversation about birth that empowers and respects women, even if their plan is not what modern medicine, “crunchy” moms, or anyone else would say is the “best” way to birth.

Megan Drapa, Science Editor

I think it’s super important to create space for hospital birth, so I also like the balance Anne Marie Williams struck with her two-part series, “My Positive Hospital Birth Story, Part I and Part II.”

Kristen Curran’s incisive piece, The individual and societal cost of Gynecology’s birth control fixation,” is truly at the crux of what we do at Natural Womanhood, so this one has my vote for one of our best articles of 2025. She nailed exactly what is at stake in the birth control vs. body literacy debate that has reached a fever pitch in 2025.

Caitlin Bootsma, Managing Editor

As a dedicated coffee drinker, I really enjoyed Johanna Duncan’s “5 tips for drinking coffee without harming your hormones.” I liked it not only because I gained some great tips, but also because the piece is emblematic of the kinds of articles we do best. It tackled a relevant issue to women and laid out the facts in an accessible way. ‘Yes’ to all the scientific evidence, and ‘no’ to leaning into any of the hype about a particular health issue.

Speaking of hype, I also really appreciated Sonia-Maria Szymanski’s book review of The New Menopause by the immensely popular Dr. Mary Claire Haver. In general, I’m a huge fan of our book reviews because they are a thorough look at the science behind some of the popular health books for women. They really do help me decide whether I should ‘buy, borrow or skip’ these titles.

Grace Emily Stark, Editor in Chief

I would have to say that my favorite articles are always the ones I know we’d have a hard time getting published outside of Natural Womanhood—not because they aren’t excellent, evidence-based, informative, and true—but precisely because they hold those attributes regardless of what the mainstream narrative is on any number of fraught topics.

High up on my list this year, then, is Anne Marie William’s piece Consent, even ‘enthusiastic consent,’ isn’t enough to prevent sexual assault.”

Another favorite, although it was a devastating article to write, was my profile of Army midwife, Lieutenant Colonel Krista Labbe, whose multiple copper IUDs have been implicated in her untimely death. Writing and publishing this piece was a reminder that our work at Natural Womanhood literally has the potential to save women’s lives.

Finally, I think I have to put in a plug for our recent article “Paging The New York Times: Fertility awareness transcends politics,” purely based on the phenomenal response it’s received. So many fellow fertility awareness and natural family planning educators have come out of the woodwork to praise the way we set the record straight in this article, which I was grateful to co-author with fellow fertility awareness educator, Monica B. Stalbert.
