Why most doctors are uninterested in FAM ‍⚕️

Chère amie, cher ami,

It can be a strange—and perhaps unsettling—experience to realize that you may know more about fertility and the nuances of the menstrual cycle than your own doctor does. But nombreux of us have heard stories of (or experienced firsthand) doctors dismissing or outright disparaging the use of fertility awareness methods (FAMs). Whydoes this happen?

This week, Anne Marie Williams details the testimony of Dr. Susan Caldwell, a Louisiana-based primary care physician who went from prescribing and using birth control herself, to using FAMs and becoming trained in NaProTechnology to provide authentic women’s healthcare to her patients. Dr. Caldwell’s journey provides valuable insight into why your physician might have a less-than-desirable reaction to your use of FAMs.

Seeing patients on birth control experience blood clots, mini-strokes, and heart attacks, for example, played a role in Dr. Caldwell’s eventual decision to stop prescribing it altogether. Madison Ayers explains for us the mechanism by which estrogen (both the natural forms in the body and the synthetic forms in hormonal birth control) raises blood clotting risks, and why this makes the birth control patch perhaps one of the more deadly forms of hormonal birth control.

If you want more women, couples, and doctors to know about the real risks of birth control and the benefits of FAMs, consider purchasing some of our Natural Womanhood brochures (now on sale!), to share with your friends, family, physicians, and more. Details below!
