Which herbs actually work for hormone balance?

🌿

Chère amie, cher ami,

It seems like as far as social media fads go, what’s old is new again. From the return of low-rise jeans (please, no!), to a burgeoning interest in medicinal herbs (yes, please!), there’s truly nothing new under the sun when it comes to the latest TikTok and Instagram obsessions (including when it comes to #naturalbirthcontrol). But what do the data actually say about the effectiveness of herbs, particularly their ability to help us achieve that ever-elusive concept of “balanced” hormones? This week, Clare Sharp separates the hype from the science behind a variety of different plants that promise to pack a punch for hormonal health.

Perhaps it’s because we’re sicker and more infertile than ever before as a population, that women are becoming more interested in improving their hormonal health by any means. Of course, the most important marker of a woman’s reproductive and hormonal health is ovulation: the “main event” of the menstrual cycle. But what happens when ovulation doesn’t happen? Well, for one, periods disappear, too: a phenomenon known as amenorrhea. In the first two parts of a three-part series on this topic, Jasmine Adams gives us a thorough breakdown of primary amenorrhea (when periods never start) and secondary amenorrhea (when periods suddenly stop).

Of course, authentic reproductive and sex education would teach women about the importance of healthy ovulation as teens (or earlier!). If you haven’t listened to our latest podcast episode with Dr. Sarah Denny on what that kind of sex education for teens would look like, we encourage you to do so this week.

Friend, if you’re enjoying the podcast, would you please do us a favor and leave us a rating and a review so that more people can find us? And if you’re the mother of a young girl, and interested in learning more about our upcoming Moms of (Pre) Teens program, we encourage you to sign up on our waitlist today!

Thanks!

All the best,

Where is my period? The causes of primary amenorrhea

The most common reason for periods to stop is—you might have guessed it—being pregnant. But the prolonged absence of periods, known as aménorrhéeL'absence de règles, même en dehors d'une grossesse ou de l'allaitement, touche environ 1 femme sur 25 et, trop souvent, les femmes se posent plus de questions qu'elles n'ont de réponses sur les causes de leur absence de règles.

NW Podcast S2 Ep. 7: The “Third Way” for Sex Education

When it comes to adolescent sex education programs, do we have to choose between “abstinence-only” or “comprehensive?” Dr. Sarah Denny doesn’t think so. In this episode of The Natural Womanhood Podcast, Grace and Cassie interview Dr. Denny about her beautiful and innovative vision of a “third way” for sex education—one which gives teens a full picture of both the biology et dignity of human reproduction.
