Pendant longtemps, mon cycle menstruel a \u00e9t\u00e9 essentiellement une bataille men\u00e9e avec des tampons et du Midol. Je n'ai pas retenu grand-chose de mon cours de sciences en 8e ann\u00e9e. J'ai m\u00e9moris\u00e9 les faits concernant les hormones, les glandes pituitaires, les follicules et les ovules, mais ces concepts sont rest\u00e9s obscurs pour moi. Puis j'ai tout oubli\u00e9 le lendemain de l'examen. Nous avons probablement revu le sujet au lyc\u00e9e, mais je n'en ai gard\u00e9 aucun souvenir. Apr\u00e8s cela, personne n'en a plus jamais parl\u00e9 : ni ma petite amie, ni ma m\u00e8re, ni m\u00eame mon gyn\u00e9cologue.<\/p>\n

Ce n'est que plusieurs ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s mes premi\u00e8res r\u00e8gles que j'ai vraiment commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 comprendre ce qui se passait chaque mois dans mon bas-ventre. Et j'ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser \u00e0 quel point c'est extraordinaire.<\/p>\n

Avant de commencer, j'aimerais faire un peu de m\u00e9nage dans notre fa\u00e7on de parler de ce sujet. Et si aujourd'hui nous parlions de fertilit\u00e9 plut\u00f4t que d'hygi\u00e8ne f\u00e9minine (quel terme boiteux, s\u00e9rieusement !)? Le mot hygi\u00e8ne sous-entend qu'il s'agit de quelque chose de sale) ? Et si nous parlions d'ovulation plut\u00f4t que de menstruation ? \u00c0 premi\u00e8re vue, cela ne semble pas faire une grande diff\u00e9rence, mais en y regardant de plus pr\u00e8s ...., vous comprendrez ce que je veux dire. Car le cycle menstruel n'est pas une histoire de tampons et de serviettes hygi\u00e9niques ; c'est la merveilleuse histoire d'un ovule.<\/p>\n

Il \u00e9tait une fois...<\/p>\n

... un \u0153uf ? Ce n'est pas rien ! D'abord, c'est la plus grande cellule du corps humain. Il mesure environ 150 microm\u00e8tres, soit 15% d'un millim\u00e8tre (= 30 fois plus grand que la t\u00eate d'un spermatozo\u00efde). Elle est visible \u00e0 l'\u0153il nu : c'est \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s la taille du trou que ferait une aiguille dans une feuille de papier. Mais c'est aussi la cellule la plus puissante : elle contient la moiti\u00e9 de tout ce qu'il faut pour faire un \u00eatre humain. On appelle aussi cet \u0153uf l'ovule ou l'ovule.<\/p>\n

Vous savez comment nous parlons du Super Bowl ? LE best-seller du New York Times #1 ? Le tube de l'\u00e9t\u00e9 ? Eh bien, consid\u00e9rez ceci comme L'histoire de l'ovule du mois. Le drame de la fertilit\u00e9 se d\u00e9roule en quatre \u00e9pisodes pleins de suspense, chacun dans son propre cadre.<\/p>\n

\u00c9pisode 1 : dans l'ovaire<\/h3>\n

Photo d'un ovaire<\/a>Il s'agit d'un ovule de la taille d'une amande, soigneusement maintenu par une membrane \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de l'ut\u00e9rus. Au d\u00e9but de la vie de la femme, il contient 500 000 ovules soigneusement emball\u00e9s, chacun dans une enveloppe protectrice appel\u00e9e follicule. Ils attendent l\u00e0 depuis sa naissance. Chaque mois, de l'adolescence \u00e0 la m\u00e9nopause, une vingtaine de ces follicules sont pr\u00e9s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s et pr\u00e9par\u00e9s. Parmi eux, un seul sera choisi pour grossir et lib\u00e9rer l'ovule qu'il contient. Pendant la premi\u00e8re phase du cycle, qui suit les r\u00e8gles, ce follicule grossit : c'est pourquoi on l'appelle la phase folliculaire. Une fois la maturation du follicule achev\u00e9e, le cerveau envoie un messager, l'hormone LH, pour commander la lib\u00e9ration de l'ovule. Enfin pr\u00eat \u00e0 partir, le minuscule mais d\u00e9termin\u00e9 ovule s'\u00e9chappe de sa chambre douillette pour aller trouver... l'amour \u2665\u2665.<\/p>\n

\u00c9pisode 2 : dans la trompe de Fallope<\/h3>\n

Cet \u00e9pisode est celui du premier baiser, ou pas. Il est tr\u00e8s court : moins de 24 heures ! Lorsque l'ovule est lib\u00e9r\u00e9 de l'ovaire, il tra\u00eene dans la trompe de Fallope o\u00f9 il attend le prince charmant, c'est-\u00e0-dire que si une flotte de spermatozo\u00efdes se pr\u00e9sente, et si le bon gars se trouve parmi eux, la f\u00e9condation a lieu ; sinon, l'ovule dispara\u00eet. Dans les deux cas, ce qui se passe ensuite est un secret bien gard\u00e9 pendant plusieurs jours. Des questions telles que : \"Alors, il l'a embrass\u00e9e ou pas ?\" restent sans r\u00e9ponse. Aucune autre partie du corps n'est au courant de ce qui s'est pass\u00e9 (c'est pourquoi les tests de grossesse ne fonctionnent pas tout de suite).<\/p>\n

\"F\u00e9condation<\/h3>\n

\u00c9pisode 3 : dans l'ut\u00e9rus<\/h3>\n

Le suspense se poursuit pendant cet \u00e9pisode, qui peut avoir deux fins tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes. Il faudra attendre environ 14 jours pour savoir si l'ovule a \u00e9t\u00e9 f\u00e9cond\u00e9 ou non. Y a-t-il eu un premier baiser ? Si oui, il y a de fortes chances que l'ovule f\u00e9cond\u00e9 cherche \u00e0 se nicher quelque part... mais avant qu'il ne se fixe et ne s'implante dans l'ut\u00e9rus, le couple amoureux profite d'une lune de miel secr\u00e8te de six \u00e0 neuf jours.<\/p>\n

Entre-temps, le follicule qui contenait l'ovule continue de jouer un r\u00f4le important dans cette histoire. Vid\u00e9 de l'ovule, il se transforme en \"corps jaune\". Il lib\u00e8re ses propres petits ouvriers, les hormones progestatives, qui aident l'ut\u00e9rus \u00e0 renforcer sa muqueuse (l'endom\u00e8tre) et \u00e0 se pr\u00e9parer \u00e0 l'accueil \u00e9ventuel d'un ovule f\u00e9cond\u00e9. Cette action, \u00e9galement appel\u00e9e phase lut\u00e9ale, se produit que le premier baiser entre l'ovule et le prince charmant ait eu lieu ou non. Le suspense est toujours \u00e0 son comble.<\/p>\n

\u00c9pisode 4 : dans le vagin<\/h3>\n

Vient maintenant la r\u00e9solution, le d\u00e9nouement de ce drame. S'il y a eu f\u00e9condation et implantation de l'\u0153uf dans l'ut\u00e9rus, l'essentiel de l'action reste dans l'ut\u00e9rus : c'est ce qu'on appelle la grossesse. Dans ce cas, l'\u00e9pisode 4 est pratiquement annul\u00e9 : rendez-vous dans neuf mois. Mais sinon, l'histoire se poursuit et le d\u00e9nouement a lieu dans le vagin. Notre corps se rend compte que l'ovule n'a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 f\u00e9cond\u00e9 et que la muqueuse ut\u00e9rine s'est \u00e9paissie pour rien : les hormones progestatives prennent cong\u00e9 pour un repos bien m\u00e9rit\u00e9 : cette chute hormonale d\u00e9clenche les r\u00e8gles. Regardez-la \u00e9vacuer l'\u00e9paisse muqueuse ut\u00e9rine pr\u00e9par\u00e9e pour accueillir l'\u0153uf f\u00e9cond\u00e9 qui n'est jamais venu. Devenue inutile, elle est enlev\u00e9e pour \u00eatre reconstruite la prochaine fois. \u00c9pisode 4, fin de la saison. Mais ne vous inqui\u00e9tez pas, un autre \u00e9pisode est d\u00e9j\u00e0 en cours ! La s\u00e9rie ne s'arr\u00eatera qu'\u00e0 la m\u00e9nopause.<\/p>\n

Ne pensez-vous pas que nous appr\u00e9cions davantage nos r\u00e8gles lorsque nous comprenons comment tout cela fonctionne ? Au lieu de les redouter comme une tribulation mensuelle, elles deviennent le magnifique signal que nous avons fait ce qu'il fallait pour nous tenir pr\u00eates \u00e0 donner la vie. La plupart du temps, la f\u00e9condation n'a pas lieu, mais le corps de la femme, qui n'est pas un mauvais perdant, ne se d\u00e9courage pas. Il commence \u00e0 pr\u00e9parer un autre ovule d\u00e8s qu'il devient \u00e9vident que cette fois-ci n'\u00e9tait pas la bonne. Quelle pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance ! C'est une source d'inspiration pour notre vie quotidienne.<\/p>\n

Oui, les gars, nous versons notre sang chaque mois pour sauver l'humanit\u00e9, tout simplement. Je dirais que nous m\u00e9ritons une m\u00e9daille.<\/p>\n
