Has pasado de anticipar el nacimiento de tu hijo a enfrentarte a la perspectiva de cuidar de un nuevo y diminuto ser humano que depende completamente de ti para sobrevivir. Es comprensible que las madres primerizas se sientan a menudo abrumadas en los d\u00edas, semanas y meses siguientes al nacimiento de su hijo. De hecho, tenemos un nombre para lo que muchas mujeres experimentan en los primeros d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de tener un beb\u00e9: la \"tristeza posparto\".&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La tristeza posparto afecta hasta al 80% de las madres, seg\u00fan la<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/publications\/postpartum-depression-facts\/index.shtml\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NIMH) y se caracterizan por sentimientos relativamente leves de preocupaci\u00f3n, infelicidad y fatiga durante un periodo no superior a dos semanas. Sin embargo, algunas mujeres, adem\u00e1s de afrontar los cambios que conlleva la llegada de un nuevo beb\u00e9, experimentan s\u00edntomas que van m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la melancol\u00eda posparto y que se conocen como depresi\u00f3n posparto (DPP).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los s\u00edntomas de la depresi\u00f3n posparto suelen ser m\u00e1s graves que los de la melancol\u00eda posparto, duran m\u00e1s de dos semanas y requieren tratamiento por un profesional de la salud mental. Alrededor del 15% de las madres padecen depresi\u00f3n posparto, seg\u00fan la<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/publications\/postpartum-depression-facts\/index.shtml\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIMH<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La depresi\u00f3n posparto es un problema muy importante, tanto si es usted madre primeriza como si es familiar o amiga de alguien que acaba de dar a luz. Al aumentar su propio conocimiento de los signos y s\u00edntomas de la depresi\u00f3n posparto, puede ayudar a sus seres queridos a buscar tratamiento lo antes posible para aumentar sus posibilidades de una recuperaci\u00f3n completa m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"symptoms-of-postpartum-depression\"><b>S\u00edntomas de la depresi\u00f3n posparto<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muchas mujeres que experimentan los s\u00edntomas de la DPP se sienten culpables porque, en lugar de experimentar las alegr\u00edas de ser madre primeriza, se sienten tristes, preocupadas y abrumadas, junto con otros muchos s\u00edntomas. En cambio, lo m\u00e1s probable es que en la depresi\u00f3n posparto influyan factores tanto f\u00edsicos como emocionales que van desde los cambios hormonales hasta la privaci\u00f3n de sue\u00f1o.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las mujeres que padecen PPD suelen empezar a experimentar s\u00edntomas entre una semana y un mes despu\u00e9s de dar a luz (sin embargo, los s\u00edntomas pueden empezar antes del parto en aproximadamente la mitad de los casos de PPD, seg\u00fan la<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pi\/women\/resources\/reports\/postpartum-depression\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asociaci\u00f3n Americana de Psicolog\u00eda<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/publications\/postpartum-depression-facts\/index.shtml\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S\u00edntomas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> incluyen:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sensaci\u00f3n de tristeza, desesperanza y agobio<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Llorar m\u00e1s de lo habitual<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preocupaci\u00f3n o ansiedad<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambios en el estado de \u00e1nimo, como mayor irritabilidad, inquietud o enfado.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambios en el sue\u00f1o, como quedarse dormido o tener dificultades para conciliar el sue\u00f1o.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dificultad para concentrarse, aumento de la falta de memoria y dificultad para tomar decisiones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P\u00e9rdida de inter\u00e9s por actividades que antes disfrutaba<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dolor f\u00edsico, incluidos dolores de cabeza, problemas digestivos y\/o dolores musculares.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambios en el apetito<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aislamiento de la familia y los amigos<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sentirse emocionalmente separado del beb\u00e9<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dudar de la capacidad de ser un cuidador adecuado<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pensamientos de autolesionarse o de hacer da\u00f1o al beb\u00e9<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"risk-factors-of-postpartum-depression\"><b>Factores de riesgo de la depresi\u00f3n posparto<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aunque no se conocen con exactitud las razones por las que algunas mujeres desarrollan DPP y otras no, los investigadores han identificado algunos factores que podr\u00edan indicar un mayor riesgo de desarrollar DPP. Son los siguientes<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pi\/women\/resources\/reports\/postpartum-depression\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">factores<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> que aumentan el riesgo de que una madre desarrolle depresi\u00f3n posparto:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambios hormonales tras el parto<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antecedentes de ansiedad y\/o depresi\u00f3n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antecedentes familiares de depresi\u00f3n o enfermedad mental<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un aumento del estr\u00e9s que podr\u00eda incluir factores de estr\u00e9s financiero o laboral.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuidar a un beb\u00e9 dif\u00edcil o con necesidades especiales<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Madres primerizas, madres j\u00f3venes, madres mayores<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tensiones emocionales como la muerte de un familiar o tensiones en la relaci\u00f3n de pareja.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aislamiento o falta de apoyo social<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.self.com\/story\/postpartum-depression-florence-leung\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incapacidad para amamantar o dificultades extremas para hacerlo.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sobre todo cuando la lactancia materna era la expectativa<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Es importante tener en cuenta que, en aproximadamente el 50 por ciento de los casos de DPP, se trata del primer episodio de depresi\u00f3n de la mujer; por este motivo, es importante ser consciente de otros factores de riesgo, as\u00ed como de los s\u00edntomas de la depresi\u00f3n posparto, para poder buscar tratamiento lo antes posible.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"treatment-options-for-postpartum-depression\"><b>Opciones de tratamiento para la depresi\u00f3n posparto<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Como la mayor\u00eda de los diagn\u00f3sticos de salud mental, la DPP se trata mejor con psicoterapia y, en algunos casos, medicaci\u00f3n, seg\u00fan la<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/publications\/postpartum-depression-facts\/index.shtml\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIMH<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">si el m\u00e9dico determina que es seguro tomar el medicamento durante la lactancia (suponiendo que la madre desee seguir amamantando). Gracias a los primeros trabajos de la Dra. Katherina Dalton y, posteriormente, a los estudios realizados por el Instituto Papa Pablo VI, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naprotechnology.com\/depression.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inyecciones de progesterona<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> han sido utilizadas durante mucho tiempo por los m\u00e9dicos en el campo de la Tecnolog\u00eda Procreativa Natural como una opci\u00f3n para tratar la DPP. Las inyecciones de progesterona tienen la ventaja de ser compatibles con la lactancia materna, al tiempo que mejoran r\u00e1pidamente los s\u00edntomas de la DPP, a veces a los pocos minutos de su administraci\u00f3n. En marzo de 2019, la <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK541054\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brexanalona aprobada por la FDA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">un metabolito natural de la progesterona, espec\u00edficamente para la <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/nuevo-y-prometedor-tratamiento-para-la-depresion-posparto-brexanolona-1-2019\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tratamiento de la DPP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alianza Nacional de Enfermedades Mentales (NAMI)<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nami.org\/Learn-More\/Mental-Health-Conditions\/Depression\/Major-Depressive-Disorder-with-Peripartum-Onset\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hace hincapi\u00e9 en<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> que la detecci\u00f3n precoz es clave para el \u00e9xito del tratamiento de la DPP. Por lo tanto, es muy importante conocer los s\u00edntomas y los factores de riesgo, as\u00ed como trabajar para eliminar el estigma que rodea a la b\u00fasqueda de tratamiento para los problemas de salud mental. Debemos seguir concienciando sobre la depresi\u00f3n posparto para que las mujeres sean conscientes de ella y busquen tratamiento, de modo que no se sientan solas ni se culpen injustamente de sus s\u00edntomas. Adaptarse al cuidado de un beb\u00e9 mientras se recupera del parto ya es bastante dif\u00edcil sin tener que afrontar la depresi\u00f3n posparto.
