Nuestros genes determinan un sinf\u00edn de cosas: nuestra estatura, el color de nuestros ojos, el riesgo de padecer ciertas enfermedades y mucho m\u00e1s. Incluso influyen en nuestras capacidades naturales y personalidades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sin embargo, lo que puede parecer menos obvio es c\u00f3mo nuestra gen\u00e9tica puede afectar a la creaci\u00f3n del \u00f3rgano que conecta temporalmente a la madre y al beb\u00e9: la placenta. Aunque la placenta contiene ADN tanto de su madre como de su padre, <em>el ADN que m\u00e1s afecta al embri\u00f3n procede en realidad de su padre<\/em>. De hecho, la salud del padre -y la forma en que influye en el papel de sus genes en la formaci\u00f3n de la placenta- tiene algunos efectos secundarios muy importantes en la salud de su descendencia, que analizaremos en este art\u00edculo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-dad-s-genes-build-the-placenta-nbsp\"><span id=\"how-dads-genes-build-the-placenta\">C\u00f3mo los genes de pap\u00e1 construyen la placenta&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/full\/10.1073\/pnas.1308998110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estudiar<\/a> de la Universidad de Cornell con caballos, burros y mulas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vet.cornell.edu\/about-us\/news\/20130812\/dads-genes-build-placentas-study-shows#:~:text=Published%20in%20PNAS%20in%20May,from%20mom%2C%20one%20from%20dad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigado<\/a> la relaci\u00f3n entre la gen\u00e9tica del padre y la placenta. Aunque el estudio no se refer\u00eda a seres humanos, aport\u00f3 datos cruciales sobre el desarrollo y el funcionamiento de la placenta en todos los euterios (mam\u00edferos con placenta), incluidos los humanos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten en cuenta que la placenta es un \u00f3rgano plano de forma ovalada que nutre al beb\u00e9 en crecimiento con el ox\u00edgeno y los nutrientes de la madre. Cuando el beb\u00e9 est\u00e1 en la fase de blastocisto (muy, muy al principio del desarrollo), empieza a producir la placenta, que contiene ADN tanto de mam\u00e1 como de pap\u00e1. La placenta est\u00e1 anclada al \u00fatero de la madre por un lado (conocido como el lado materno) y unida al beb\u00e9 a trav\u00e9s del cord\u00f3n umbilical por el otro (el lado del beb\u00e9). Si has tenido el privilegio de ver un parto en persona, sabr\u00e1s que la placenta se parece mucho a un \"\u00e1rbol de la vida\" con todos los vasos sangu\u00edneos que contiene. A 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell-metabolism\/fulltext\/S1550-4131(23)00217-6?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS1550413123002176%3Fshowall%3Dtrue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estudiar<\/a> de la Universidad de Cambridge descubrieron que uno de los genes que los padres aportan a la placenta se llama Igf2.
