Como compartimos, la liberaci\u00f3n de progesterona del cuerpo l\u00fateo (un peque\u00f1o quiste producido en el ovario como resultado de la ovulaci\u00f3n) despu\u00e9s de la ovulaci\u00f3n hace dos cosas: 1) Ayuda a equilibrar los efectos que el estr\u00f3geno tuvo en la primera mitad del ciclo conocido como el <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fundamentos-de-la-fam-que-es-la-fase-folicular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fase folicular<\/a>2) Da nombre a la segunda mitad del ciclo: la fase l\u00fatea.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En este art\u00edculo, repasaremos r\u00e1pidamente las dos fases del ciclo hormonal y, a continuaci\u00f3n, profundizaremos en la fase l\u00fatea. En concreto, veremos qu\u00e9 ocurre normalmente durante la fase l\u00fatea y c\u00f3mo pueden influir en ella los desequilibrios hormonales.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-follicle-comes-first\"><span id=\"the-follicle-comes-first\">El fol\u00edculo es lo primero<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El ciclo hormonal consta de dos fases: la <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fundamentos-de-la-fam-que-es-la-fase-folicular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fase folicular<\/a>que comienza con la menstruaci\u00f3n y contin\u00faa durante <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-conceptos-basicos-que-es-la-ovulacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ovulaci\u00f3n<\/a>y la fase l\u00fatea, que comienza tras la ovulaci\u00f3n y finaliza con la siguiente menstruaci\u00f3n. Puedes recordar el orden de las fases recordando que \"el fol\u00edculo es lo primero\".&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante el <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fundamentos-de-la-fam-que-es-la-fase-folicular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fase folicular<\/a>En los ovarios, donde se produce la acci\u00f3n, se observa un aumento tanto del estr\u00f3geno como de la progesterona. En la imagen de abajo se puede ver que el aumento de progesterona es m\u00e1s lento que el de estr\u00f3geno. Estos cambios hormonales establecen el proceso f\u00edsico que conduce a <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-conceptos-basicos-que-es-la-ovulacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ovulaci\u00f3n<\/a> (es decir, la liberaci\u00f3n de un \u00f3vulo de un ovario) en movimiento. Cada \u00f3vulo est\u00e1 contenido dentro de un fol\u00edculo, y la ovulaci\u00f3n se produce cuando se libera un \u00f3vulo de un fol\u00edculo, conocido como fol\u00edculo dominante (se estimulan muchos fol\u00edculos para que maduren, pero s\u00f3lo uno, y ocasionalmente m\u00e1s como en los gemelos fraternos, es dominante).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una mujer traza su ciclo con un <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/que-es-un-metodo-de-conocimiento-de-la-fertilidad-y-como-empezar-a-trazar-graficos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">m\u00e9todo de conocimiento de la fertilidad (FAM)<\/a> sabr\u00e1 que probablemente se est\u00e9 acercando a la ovulaci\u00f3n cuando observe claras y el\u00e1sticas <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-basic-que-es-el-moco-cervical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">moco cervical<\/a>, a menudo descrita como moco cervical de color blanco huevo, y\/o cuando siente una sensaci\u00f3n l\u00fabrica. <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-conceptos-basicos-que-es-la-ovulacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ovulaci\u00f3n<\/a> tambi\u00e9n provoca un aumento de<a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/metodo-de-conocimiento-de-la-fertilidad-bases-temperatura-corporal-basal-bbt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> temperatura corporal basal<\/a> (TCB), o la temperatura del cuerpo cuando est\u00e1 en reposo absoluto. La temperatura corporal basal permanece elevada hasta el siguiente periodo menstrual (o m\u00e1s, si se produce un embarazo). Las lecturas diarias de la TCB forman parte de los m\u00e9todos sintot\u00e9rmicos de conocimiento de la fertilidad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/jpwV-RofOd1dWI08O7QlA2lL1U-EsMvSlQ5zQlmZBAw2XAlcc5lyAeh7xuMM-_5zPbfO2ug-OBm6pS7s3A2v2Iq7FLeVlXAPkeyrFRs1oCWo7go4-U-ob2AH-0lGkYSHneSgjSAs\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happens-during-the-luteal-phase\"><span id=\"what-happens-during-the-luteal-phase\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 ocurre durante la fase l\u00fatea?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tras la ovulaci\u00f3n, comienza la fase l\u00fatea. El fol\u00edculo, ahora vac\u00edo, se convierte en una gl\u00e1ndula flotante llamada cuerpo l\u00fateo, que produce progesterona durante la fase l\u00fatea o, si se produce la fecundaci\u00f3n, durante los tres primeros meses del embarazo. En una fase l\u00fatea normal, la progesterona aumenta r\u00e1pidamente y disminuye al final del ciclo.<em> a menos que<\/em> se produce la fecundaci\u00f3n, en cuyo caso la progesterona se mantiene a un nivel elevado para favorecer el embarazo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-basics-progesterona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Progesterona<\/a> desempe\u00f1a varias funciones durante la fase l\u00fatea. Hace que el cuello uterino <em>stop<\/em> secretar moco f\u00e9rtil y a <em>iniciar <\/em>secretar moco gest\u00e1geno, un moco denso que sella eficazmente el cuello uterino para impedir que los espermatozoides y otros microorganismos entren en el organismo, con el fin de proteger el embarazo (en caso de que se produzca). Una mujer que est\u00e9 registrando su biomarcador de moco cervical como parte de un <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/que-es-un-metodo-de-conocimiento-de-la-fertilidad-y-como-empezar-a-trazar-graficos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FAM<\/a> dejar\u00e1 de ver o sentir el moco f\u00e9rtil transparente, el\u00e1stico y lubrificante y, en su lugar, empezar\u00e1 a sentir una sensaci\u00f3n de sequedad. Este tipo de infertilidad<a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-basic-que-es-el-moco-cervical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> moco cervical<\/a> puede aparecer en peque\u00f1as cantidades como secreci\u00f3n espesa y pegajosa, o puede no ser observable en absoluto. El moco gest\u00e1geno se disuelve al final del ciclo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La progesterona tambi\u00e9n hace que el revestimiento del \u00fatero, el <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-basics-todo-lo-que-necesita-saber-sobre-su-endometrio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endometrio<\/a>engrosarse. Si se produce el embarazo, este endometrio m\u00e1s grueso favorece la implantaci\u00f3n del \u00f3vulo fecundado. Si no se produce el embarazo, el endometrio se desprende durante la menstruaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-a-healthy-luteal-phase-length\"><span id=\"what-is-a-healthy-luteal-phase-length\">\u00bfCu\u00e1l es la duraci\u00f3n de una fase l\u00fatea saludable?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Seg\u00fan la <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/podcast\/ep-3-que-es-el-femm-entrevista-con-anna-halpine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">M\u00e9todo FEMM de conocimiento de la fertilidad<\/a> (Una fase l\u00fatea sana dura entre 9 y 18 d\u00edas, con una media de 12 d\u00edas. La duraci\u00f3n de la fase l\u00fatea de cada mujer debe ser constante de un ciclo a otro, con una variaci\u00f3n ocasional normal de un d\u00eda m\u00e1s o menos. Una duraci\u00f3n normal de la fase l\u00fatea es un buen indicador de que se ha producido la ovulaci\u00f3n y de que las hormonas se encuentran en niveles saludables. Uno de los requisitos para una fase l\u00fatea saludable es un cuerpo l\u00fateo sano, que puede verse afectado por la inflamaci\u00f3n, <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/disfunciones-tiroideas-hipotiroidismo-y-fertilidad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enfermedad tiroidea<\/a>o <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/resistencia-a-la-insulina-pcos-fertilidad-prediabetes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">problemas de insulina<\/a>seg\u00fan <em>Manual de reparaci\u00f3n de \u00e9poca<\/em>un libro de Lara Briden, ND.<strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una fase l\u00fatea corta, tambi\u00e9n conocida como fase l\u00fatea deficiente o defecto de fase l\u00fatea, indica que las hormonas de la fase folicular probablemente no alcanzaron niveles suficientes. <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/como-afecta-el-estres-al-ciclo-menstrual-conocimiento-de-la-fertilidad-fabm-nfp-05052018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estr\u00e9s<\/a> tambi\u00e9n puede causar una fase l\u00fatea corta. La ausencia total de fase l\u00fatea puede indicar que no se ha producido la ovulaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una fase l\u00fatea deficiente tiene como resultado una progesterona baja y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factsaboutfertility.org\/factors-contributing-to-a-suboptimal-luteal-phase-a-research-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">puede dar lugar a<\/a> infertilidad o <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/que-es-un-embarazo-quimico-aborto-espontaneo-precoz-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">p\u00e9rdida precoz del embarazo<\/a>Al fin y al cabo, el endometrio necesita tiempo suficiente para engrosarse y favorecer la implantaci\u00f3n, y se requieren niveles suficientes de progesterona tanto para la implantaci\u00f3n como para el mantenimiento de un embarazo sano. Una fase l\u00fatea deficiente tambi\u00e9n puede ser un signo de otro problema que puede causar infertilidad, como por ejemplo <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/tema\/disfunciones-del-ciclo\/quistes-pcos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">s\u00edndrome de ovario poliqu\u00edstico (SOP)<\/a>. Un nivel bajo de progesterona puede causar otros problemas, de los que hablamos en nuestro art\u00edculo de Conceptos b\u00e1sicos FAM sobre <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-basics-progesterona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">progesterona<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como resultado de la ca\u00edda natural de la progesterona que se produce al final de la fase l\u00fatea, es normal experimentar cierta sensibilidad mamaria leve, hinchaz\u00f3n, calambres, dolor de cabeza, fatiga, insomnio e irritabilidad durante los d\u00edas previos a la menstruaci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, los s\u00edntomas m\u00e1s graves que alteran significativamente la vida de una mujer no son normales y pueden ser <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/tema\/disfunciones-del-ciclo\/sindrome-premenstrual-depresion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">s\u00edndrome premenstrual (SPM) o trastorno disf\u00f3rico premenstrual (TDPM)<\/a>que puede deberse a un bajo nivel de progesterona durante la fase l\u00fatea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-signs-of-a-deficient-luteal-phase-and-how-to-get-help-for-it\"><span id=\"signs-of-a-deficient-luteal-phase-and-how-to-get-help-for-it\">Signos de una fase l\u00fatea deficiente, y c\u00f3mo obtener ayuda para ello<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Es posible que tengas una fase l\u00fatea deficiente si tienes sangrado marr\u00f3n al final (sangrado o manchado marr\u00f3n al final del flujo menstrual rojo normal), m\u00e1s de dos d\u00edas de manchado premenstrual (rojo o marr\u00f3n), una fase l\u00fatea corta (menos de nueve d\u00edas) o un aumento escaso, irregular o nulo de la temperatura corporal basal. Si observas un patr\u00f3n de alguno o todos estos s\u00edntomas -todos los cuales pueden verse y registrarse en un gr\u00e1fico menstrual-, es una buena idea que se lo comentes a tu m\u00e9dico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muchos m\u00e9dicos analizan la progesterona mediante una muestra de sangre el d\u00eda 21 del ciclo para intentar diagnosticar un problema de fase l\u00fatea. Este enfoque \u00fanico es err\u00f3neo porque no se basa en el momento en que una mujer ovul\u00f3 durante ese ciclo concreto. <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/buscar-un-medico\/medicina-reproductiva-reparadora\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Proveedores de salud reproductiva reparadora<\/a> utilizan un enfoque diferente, en el que la mujer identifica su d\u00eda punta (el d\u00eda en que es m\u00e1s probable que <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/fam-conceptos-basicos-que-es-la-ovulacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ovulado<\/a>En cuanto a la progesterona, la doctora le hace una prueba de progesterona, o muy cerca de ella, bas\u00e1ndose en sus gr\u00e1ficos, y le hace pruebas de progesterona varios d\u00edas durante la fase l\u00fatea para observar si la progesterona aumenta y disminuye adecuadamente.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si tu proveedor de atenci\u00f3n sanitaria te hace la prueba de la progesterona antes de que hayas visto ning\u00fan signo de ovulaci\u00f3n (lo que significa que probablemente a\u00fan est\u00e9s en la primera mitad de tu ciclo) o s\u00f3lo en el d\u00eda 21 de tu ciclo, puede que sea el momento de buscar un nuevo proveedor. <a href=\"https:\/\/fertilitycare.org\/find-a-mc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NaPro<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalwomanhood.org\/es\/historias-de-fiv-vs-napro-historias-de-exito-de-infertilidad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NeoFertility<\/a>y <a href=\"https:\/\/femmhealth.org\/medical-providers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FEMM<\/a>-Por ejemplo, los m\u00e9dicos formados est\u00e1n bien equipados para evaluar y tratar una fase l\u00fatea deficiente.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-importance-of-charting-nbsp\"><span id=\"the-importance-of-charting\">La importancia de los gr\u00e1ficos&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin saber c\u00f3mo trazar su ciclo, una mujer es incapaz de identificar su fase l\u00fatea y, por lo tanto, puede no ser capaz de entender si algo est\u00e1 mal en esta parte importante de su ciclo. La salud de la fase l\u00fatea de una mujer es una informaci\u00f3n especialmente cr\u00edtica para las parejas que intentan concebir, pero tambi\u00e9n es un importante indicador general de salud para todas las mujeres (independientemente de cu\u00e1les sean sus objetivos de fertilidad).
